Patio with Pergola Ideas and An Outdoor Sectional Set

Patio Ideas Starting With a Gorgeous Outdoor Sectional Set

These patio with pergola ideas revolve around a lovely, muted patio sectional set that makes the outdoor space comfortable, versatile and easy to decorate.

We sent the modular seating to designer Bethany DeVore of Dwellings by DeVore for our Patio Style Challenge series. We challenged Bethany and several other talented design bloggers to style attractive and functional outdoor spaces with a patio set from The Home Depot as a starting point.

Bethany makes the most out the space under her pergola with colorful art, a cool Craigslist find, privacy curtains and an amazing DIY hanging succulent planter. There are so many terrific patio ideas here that would make any outdoor space something special.

Patio With Pergola Idea – The Patio Set

We recently moved into a new home and one of the things that sold us on it was the patio space. The bones were good and it had great potential.

The Hampton Bay Tobago Sectional can be configured for your space. I chose this configuration, with slipcovers in Parchment, ended up being a perfect fit for our space.

It creates a cozy place for us to gather around the outdoor fireplace. I’m big on texture, so I love the richness and warmth of the woven wicker. It’s also completely customizable. Each piece is separate, so we can change it up down the road if we need to, which is a really nice feature.

An outdoor coffee table, or chow table, in front of an outdoor sectional set

This set is great if you don’t have room for a separate eating space and lounging area because it combines the two.

The coffee table (or “chow table”) that comes with it is the perfect height for enjoying a nice dinner and when you are done you can sit back and relax.

Colorful outdoor throw pillows on a neutral outdoor sectional

For the pillows, I started with the Hampton Bay Mill Valley Pillow Set and then layered in some abstract painted white pillow covers and a few palm leaf cushions for color.

Wanting to mix things up a bit, we switched out the coffee table for a recent Craigslist find–a pouf-inspired metal cocktail table. We love having the option to use both depending on how the mood strikes!

DIY Privacy Curtain

We wanted to increase our privacy, so we added some curtains to our existing pergola. They weren’t specifically outdoor curtains, so we sprayed them with Neverwet to help them repel water and hold up to the elements.

Electrical conduit used as a rod to hold a DIY privacy curtain

This electrical conduit worked great for our outdoor curtain rods. One side of the pergola ended up being too long for the 10 ft. pole, so I used couplings to connect two smaller pieces. For the brackets, I used conduit hangers. They are offset just enough to allow the curtains to easily slide along the rod.

DIY Succulent Planter

Succulents are so popular right now and with good reason! They are beautiful and fairly easy to maintain. I wanted to create a unique focal point above our outdoor fireplace so I created a DIY planter box with a mirror in the middle to add a reflective element.

I’ve posted a tutorial for this DIY succulent mirror on my blog. Take a look!

More Patio Upgrades

To increase our seating, I updated some vintage chairs with a fresh coat of glossy black spray paint.

This DIY side table and outdoor checkers table was easy to create using a simple black plant stand, unfinished wood disc, and painters tape. Washers from the hardware department work perfectly for the checkers! Take a look at the tutorial for this DIY checkers table on my blog.

Brimfield Outdoor Wall Lantern from The Home Depot

Our builder’s grade light fixture was nothing special and it felt so tiny and disproportional along the back of the house. So we switched it out with the Brimfield Outdoor Wall Lantern. The seeded glass and iron finish remind me of an old southern home, which I love!

I recently updated our metal console table with some gold spray paint to brighten it up. I moved it outside to create a nice serving area and a place to store our firewood.

Bold outdoor art behind a console with cold beverages

I used plywood, 1 x 2’s, and some paint to create a large piece of abstract art. I finished it off with a topcoat of water-based polyurethane to help it hold up to the elements.

Our thrifted table needed an update. A fresh coat of paint and new cushions made such a big difference!

Wood discs cut from a curbside log I found make the perfect chargers for an outdoor table setting.

I foresee many cookouts, cozy fires, and s’mores in our future! Thank you again to the Home Depot for helping us create a little outdoor oasis for our family to enjoy!
