Painting tip: wet brush before dipping into paint

If you’ve invested in high quality paint brushes, the last thing you want to do is ruin your brushes on the first use. One easy way to keep your paint brush bristles from becoming crusted with paint is to only dip the brush 1/3 of the way into the paint. This way, even once the paint has migrated to the top of the bristles, it will be easier to clean.

To keep your paint from seeping too far up the brush bristles, try wetting it with water before dipping in paint, then squeezing the water out. This will keep the paint from seeping up the bristles and into the ferrule (the metal the binds the bristles with the handle). Keeping the paint toward the bottom of the bristles makes the brush last longer.
