When it comes to decorating with lots of personality, Allison of Two Thirty~Five Designs pretty much has it down. She has a knack for being unconventional, but still down to earth with her styling.
That’s why we’re loving the holiday mantel ideas she’s offering as part of our Holiday Style Challenge series here on The Home Depot Blog. For the Style Challenge, we send some of our favorite design and decor bloggers mystery boxes of Home Depot Christmas decorations and let them work their decorating magic.
Allison pulled together an eclectic mix of elements, including an estate sale find and a piece of cool DIY wall art to create her fun and festive fireplace mantel in her unique way.
Last Christmas was our first in this house, and I kept the mantel really low-key and simple by using all white with just a bit of gold. I really loved the clean lines of it all, but wanted to add more texture to it this year. And I was giddy with the patterns that I found at The Home Depot!
I started with a chair that I had grabbed from an estate sale over a year ago. It sat and sat until I got a wild hair and painted it gold and recovered the cushion. My husband was just giddy it was out of the garage. You can see the how I gave the chair new life on my blog.
I love the coziness of seating around the fireplace, and I am constantly switching it up between oversized chairs, floor pillows and everything in-between. With three kids, a dog and a gang of little blonde neighbors constantly in and out, it tends to be a revolving door of decor. And I thought this Christmas pillow was fabulous!
Seriously swooning over the plaids and checks that I found. The burlap black and white checkered tree skirt and plaid mini bows are timeless and mix in with any decor.
I have a large tree that I put in the main part of our living, but I wanted something slimmer to fit in the corner of the fireplace. I decided to go with a spiral potted tree. It keeps it up off the floor and doesn’t hog the space in front of the fireplace. I added some of these pretty blown glass ornaments and these other shatterproof ornaments to dress it up.
I went back and forth when trying to decide on what to hang above my mantel. I wavered between having something traditional to rustic to modern. Then my eyes landed on a few of my favorite rugs and pillows, and I took off from there. Head over to my blog to see how I made the DIY mantel art!
Instead of using stocking holders, I opted to use these insanely cute mercury glass owls. They are a definite year-round keeper around here!
I am a huge sucker for lights (and glitter). I seriously cannot have enough!! I couldn’t resist these festive winter lanterns, and I fell in love with the Martha Stewart Pre-Lit Sparkling Garland. Aren’t they gorgeous?
Can’t go wrong with a little fur to layer in texture and make the overall space feel inviting.
Happiest of Holidays to you!
