Fresh Christmas Decorating Ideas: Holiday Vignettes

There’s no knocking the Everything Shiny and Sparkly school of thought when it comes to holiday decor, but minimal Christmas decorating can be just as effective when done right. Interior designer Jana Bek knows about understated decorating. Her Christmas decorating ideas keep things simple and easy to manage.

She writes about design and decor on her blog Jana Bek Design, and she’s among the talented bloggers taking part in our Holiday Style Challenge series. It goes like this: we sent the style bloggers mystery boxes of Home Depot Christmas decorations, and let the bloggers use them to create fresh new takes on holiday decor.

One big takeaway from Jana’s Style Challenge is to decorate in what she calls “vignettes”, as she explains…

I love transitioning our home for the holidays and I’m excited to share my approach to decorating with you!

Lately in terms of décor and design I’ve been inspired by cleaner décor – a less is more mentality. So when I received my Home Depot Challenge boxes, I took my time considering how I would use these pieces to create fresh and minimal holiday vignettes throughout our home.

The faux greenery really resonated with me – I loved the look of the kissing ball and mailbox swag but I needed to repurpose each for my needs.

We have really high ceilings so the kissing ball turned into a bouquet for our powder room.

With the addition of some white roses, it’s the easiest holiday arrangement! Even without the blooms, it’s lovely, perfect no fuss décor for the busy holiday season.

As I mentioned, I loved the look of the mailbox swag but we have an enclosed mailbox (besides it’s too pretty not to use indoors!). So I laid the swag out flat on our dining room buffet, paired it with a flameless pillar candle, and again, a fresh festive arrangement with no upkeep!

Also no worries about the greenery catching fire! I love how the pinecones pop paired with my chocolate brushstroke lamps.

I knew the champagne birch wreath would be beautiful in our living room, but I wasn’t sure where to place it. I wanted it to be a focal point in the space, so I added some ribbon to it and hung it over our beachy prints. I love how it came together.

Then I hung the garland on our television console and the pre-lit potted tree fit nicely to the left of it. (I spray painted the base of our tree off white so it would pop off the floors. It was so easy; I just wrapped a trash bag over the tree and spray painted the base). I love the addition of the earthy accents!

I love how these holiday accents came together – clean and fresh, but with plenty of texture to keep it interesting and eye catching. I’m so excited that there’s no need for upkeep to boot! Thanks again for checking out my Home Depot Holiday Style Challenge!
