- Screw gun
- Finish nailer
- Paint brush
- Plywood or MDF
- Decorative moulding of your choice
- 1-in x 3-inch board
- Wood filler
- Wood glue

Layout the desired design for the front and sides on the plywood and cut them out with the circular saw. If your design has any curves to it use a jigsaw to cut them out.
Fasten the front and sides together with a nail gun or finishing nails and glue.
Measure and cut the decorative moulding to size and attach them to the cornice box with nails and glue.
Fill all nail holes, sand all rough edges, remove any dust and then prime and paint as desired.
Use screws to attach a 1×3 ledger board to the studs. Then attach the cornice to the ledger board. If your cornice is on the heavy side, then you will want to use a bigger ledger board.
Install the curtain rod hangers and hang the curtains.
Hang a picture and a light for added effect. Or just keep it simple.
