Christmas Gift Wrapping Ideas Add Sparkle
Part of the fun of wrapping presents is coming up with clever Christmas gift wrapping ideas. I always love to add an unexpected element, whether that’s a DIY tassel, a sprig of greenery, or a shiny element, like the DIY washer garland I made above. With just an inexpensive packet of ¼-in. washers from The Home Depot hardware aisle and a bit of orange twine, I add a little sparkle to my gift!
Here’s how to make this DIY lock washer garland.
DIY Lock Washer Garland for Christmas Gift Wrapping
Skill level: Novice
Time: About 3 minutes for each garland
Cost: About $20
- ¼-in. Zinc-Plated Steel Internal Tooth Lock Washers (packet of 18)
- Twisted mason line, jute twine, or cotton twine
- Key tags
- Small shatterproof Christmas ornaments (The Home Depot has several Christmas ornaments that are 6 inches, or smaller. Just refine your search by checking boxes for ornament size, and “shatterproof.”)
Cut a stretch of twine about 1 foot long (or long enough to accommodate your package). Start by looping your twine through your first washer twice.
Next, slide your washer down the piece of twine carefully so that’s in the middle of your piece of twine.
Repeat first two steps until you have a series of washers on your twine. When you pull each end of your twine taut, it should look like the garland below.
Add a gift tag (I used inexpensive paper key tags) and a couple of small ornaments to your washer garland, and tie the twine to the gift. Be sure to check out all of our DIY Christmas wrapping ideas, and give your gifts a little extra pizazz this year!
