Best Tailgating Ideas Ever: Rent a Portable Generator

Jamison Rantz, who writes the blog Rogue Engineer, has a lot of great DIY tailgating ideas to share. But perhaps the best tailgate party idea ever– renting a portable generator.

I decided take our tailgate partying to the next level by adding power with a portable generator. Renting the generator from The Home Depot is a great way to do this. It’s one of the best tailgating ideas, ever.

Renting from The Home Depot means I don’t have to purchase a generator, which means no upfront or maintenance costs. I rented a Honda 2000W Inverter Generator from my local Home Depot store. It’s a great choice for tailgating.

Adding power to your tailgate opens up so many possibilities. Down in Georgia, where I live, it’s still pretty hot at the beginning of football season, so for the first few weeks we’ll need a fan to help keep the tailgate party cool. Of course, adding lights will helps us tailgate late into the night.

Make your tailgate buddies feel like they’re on the field with a bit of gridiron turf. I just used a 6 x 8 artificial grass rug for the turf, and laid out some yard lines with white duct tape.

What’s a tailgate without good eats? A folding table can act as a buffet for you tailgate goodies.

And here’s the game changer! With the help of the portable generator we can plug in our TV (plus HDTV antenna), and we’ve got live access to the big show! To support the TV, I knew the stock stand just wasn’t going to cut it so I created this DIY collapsible tailgate TV stand.

One of the best parts is that this generator is not only super quiet but when you place it in front of the car it can’t be heard at all!

The rental process went very smooth. The Home Depot associate explained how to operate the generator and was there to answer any questions I had. If you’re like me and sick of accumulating stuff, tool rental is the way to go.

Talk to the associates at your local Home Depot’s Rental Desk about renting tools from The Home Depot. You can get more information, too, online at our Tool and Truck Rental page.
